Machine Learning Accelerated Design and Discovery of Rare-earth Phosphates as Next Generation Environmental Barrier Coatings

invalid_date

Researchers  from  Rensselaer  Polytechnic Institute  synthesized  single  phase  multiple component  rare-earth  phosphate  as  potential environmental  barrier  coatings  of  structure materials   for   space   and   aerospace application. Thermo-mechanical   properties   of   the multicomponent phosphates are measured. The  resistance  of  the  multicomponent phosphates  against  molten  glass  attack  was investigated  at  different  temperature  and durations. Multicomponent    phosphates    display comparable  coefficient  of  thermal  expansion, but significantly lower thermal conductivity as compared with single component counterparts, implying immense potentials as environmental barrier coating.
